On the French Element in the English Regional Dialects

Description

Photocopied pages (69-83) from an M.A. (English Language) thesis, submitted to the University of Liverpool in 1934. These pages were copied from Chapter Four, and contain word lists grouped into distribution areas outlined on accompanying maps, based largely on Joseph Wright's ( 'English Dialect Dictionary') dialect areas. Pages 80-83 contain some general remarks on words of French origin occurring in English regional dialects. A typed sheet containing information on the scope and content of the whole thesis is included in this file.
