This file contains items relating to topping-out ceremonies, a tradition in the building industry marking either the roofing-in of a building, or the half-way stage in the construction of a building. The file includes typed extracts on topping-out from G. W. Speth's 'Builders' Rites and Ceremonies: The Folk Lore of Masonry' (Margate: W. J. Parrett Ltd., 1951), [4] leaves; 'Appendix B: Ceremonial Procedures', from the 'RIBA Handbook of Architectural Practice and Management' (London: RIBA, 1967), pp. 07-08; mounted newspaper cuttings from 'The Guardian' on topping-out ceremonies at the University of Leeds and the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield; and pages from the University of Leeds magazine, 'The Reporter', for 31 May 1974 and 30 July 1976, on topping-out ceremonies at the University. File arranged chronologically.
