The correspondence in this sub-subseries relates to the production and publication of 'The Linguistic Atlas of England' (LAE). It includes correspondence and copies of the minutes of the LAE Committee and LAE Editorial Committee; a draft funding application to Yorkshire Television; correspondence with various bodies, including the Ordnance Survey and Linguistic Survey of Scotland, with regard to the presentation of LAE maps; correspondence relating to LAE press and publicity; an application to the Leverhulme Trust for a grant in aid, and internal (i.e. University of Leeds) correspondence concerning the Leverhulme account and expenditure; correspondence with various publishers, in particular Croom Helm, regarding the publishing of the LAE; ms. and typed correspondence, and printed items concerning symbolisation; correspondence concerning cartographic and IPA symbols for the LAE; with John Widdowson on the Survey of English Dialects (SED) publication programme and the editing of the LAE; relating to the employment of cartographic draughtsmen for the LAE; and concerning proposals for future dialect publications.
