Description
This file contains typed and some ms. correspondence between Stewart Sanderson and the publishers Croom Helm, primarily concerning the publication of 'The Linguistic Atlas of England' (LAE). This includes correspondence with Christopher Helm negotiating Croom Helm's publication of the LAE and an agreement of contract, including a copy of the contract as finalised, and regarding the editorial and mapping progress of the LAE, publicity, pricing, publication and future publishing plans, including a dialect dictionary based on the Survey of English Dialects (SED) and an atlas of world languages (September 1972-October 1982); correspondence with the new reference editor (June 1983); correspondence with John Saunders regarding symbolisation on the LAE maps and work on proofs (July 1976-October 1978); correspondence with Peter Sowden, Katie Walsh and others regarding LAE publication publicity and press conference, and other related matters (April 1977-June 1981); correspondence with Nick Williams on a script for a dialect-based publication, with Sanderson's ms. notes and comments (May 1979); and correspondence concerning a personal book order by Sanderson, royalties and invoicing (December 1976; January 1982; February 1983). The arrangement of the file is roughly chronological and by correspondence/subject matter.
