John Widdowson
Description
Although separated into two physical file folders, these files were originally held as two folders within a single filing-cabinet file. The files contain typed and ms. original and copy correspondence, and related papers, exchanged between Stewart Sanderson and John Widdowson during Widdowson's work as an editor on 'The Linguistic Atlas of England' (LAE). The first file was originally labelled LAE Correspondence - Widdowson, and includes correspondence relating to the Survey of English Dialects (SED) publication scheme, the editing of the LAE and its progress, and the publication of the LAE (October 1969-September 1978). The second file was originally labelled Correspondence SFS, JDW & PAP August 1976, and includes correspondence with Widdowson and Philippa (Sanderson's secretary?) on the editing of the LAE (August 1976). The files are arranged chronologically, as found.
