Surrender Smelting Mill: Flue

Description

Collapsed stone arching of the underground flue which runs to the chimney at Surrender Smelting Mill, Surrender Bridge, Arkengarthdale. The chimney was built with a long underground flue at some distance from the mill in order to avoid damage to herbage on the lower-lying sheep grazing grounds. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P0918. With ms. note. Originally held in Photo File: Mining.
