Student Research Papers

Description

The items in this subfonds present original research in Folklore and Folklife Studies, English Language and Dialectology. The subject areas covered include custom and belief, traditional narratives, traditional song, instrumental music, drama and dance, children's traditions, dialect, material culture, work techniques and crafts. The geographical focus is primarily British, but research undertaken by overseas students studying aspects of the folklore/folklife of their native countries is also included (principally, within Africa, Europe and North America). Such work was completed by students studying at the University of Leeds, or gathered from scholars studying elsewhere (some of whom drew on the archival resources of the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies). Many (but not all) of the studies contain photographs of informants and localities, printed items, drawings and maps.
