Buttermaking: Weighing the Butter
Description
Mrs. M. E. Scott preparing to weight butter in her home, West Stonesdale ( Swaledale). A large handful of butter is taken out of the wooden butter bowl, where it has been mixed and salted, and is shaped slightly before it weighed on a set of scales, and then placed on a wooden board. Mrs. Scott's hands are kept cool and wet throughout this process in order that the butter does not stick to them. Mounted on Photo File card. With typed note. Card 9 in a series of 13.
