Buttermaking: Second Butter Mixing
Description
Mrs. M. E. Scott mixing butter in a wooden butter bowl, in her home, West Stonesdale ( Swaledale). This is the second mixing, where weighed handfuls of butter are placed individually in the wooden butter bowl, thoroughly mixed again by hand, and then patted against the sides of the bowl in order to get the last drops of buttermilk out. The presence of buttermilk in butter reduces its keeping quality. Mounted on Photo File card. With typed note. Card 11 in a series of 13. Originally held in Photo File: Buttermaking.
