Needle Supports (Handknitting)
Description
Five carved wooden knitting sheaths from villages in the Eden Vale (Cumbria), including Great Asby, Sandford and Langford. The supports form part of the Whitehead Collection at the Castle Museum, York, and include a sheath with a deep ledge for belt or waistband; a plain sheath; a sheath with a curve cut into the blade; a sheath with a floral motif; and a sheath with floral motif, heart and initials S.D.1877. Display labelled C. Unmounted.
