Needle Supports (Handknitting)
Description
Six carved and turned wooden sheath needle supports from villages in the Eden Vale (Cumbria), including Appleby, Great Asby, Bolton and Sandford. The supports form part of the Whitehead Collection at the Castle Museum, York, and include three plain sheaths, one with elaborate metalwork on the haft, and one with a deep ledge for belt or waistband; a turned stick; a sheath carved into the shape of a fish; and a sheath with initials I.D. Display labelled B. Unmounted.
