Longsword Dancers
Description
Magazine cutting from an article by J. Trevor Stone in the 'Dalesman' (November 1979), consisting of a copy of a photograph taken ca. 1910 of a team of longsword dancers at Sleights (North Yorkshire). The dancers are dressed in costumes made from pieces of brightly patterned material. They also wear head-dresses or hats, and some wear false beards and have painted faces. They are accompanied by an un-costumed man playing a fiddle. Originally held in Photo File: Traditional Customs, Annual Fairs, Bonfires.
