This file contains items relating to games played by children using special equipment, such as a ball or skipping rope. The file includes a photocopy of Bernard A. Barton's article, 'Let's Laik at Summat', on games played by Yorkshire schoolchildren, from the 'Dalesman' (September 1979), pp. 475-477; an ms. letter from Doris Hepworth to Stanley Ellis on pize-ball and other games (8 January 1978); Sheila Young's ms. paper with skipping rhymes and games, singing games, counting out rhymes and playground chants from the Hunslet area of Leeds in the 1940s (n.d.); Bea Howe's article, 'The Charm of Old Marbles', extracted from 'Country Life' (11 December 1969), p. 1593; Edward A. Newmark's article, 'British Toys', extracted from the 'Journal of the Royal Society of Arts' (January 1968), pp. 135-148 (final page(s) missing); and mounted magazine cuttings from 'Country Life' and the 'Countryman', on the playing of fives, conkers and cherry-stone games.
