St. Anthony Abbot of Egypt (fol. 154r)
Description
St. Anthony, holding a T-shaped crutch (Tau-cross), a book and a bell, stands in a fire (St. Anthony's fire), with a pig beside him. He is clad in the habit of his Order, a dark robe and cowl. In the background are scenes of him being tempted by demons, in the form of two subhuman creatures assaulting him and a richly clad woman tempting him. The borders are decorated with flowers, ivy leaves, and two grotesques that have human-like upper bodies and animal-like lower bodies, and seem to be fighting with clubs or branches. Context: Suffrages: Saint Antony
