The Distinction Between Folk and Popular Music
Description
This file contains two photocopies of Maud Karpeles' paper discussing why popular songs cannot be considered as folk songs, from the 'Journal of the International Folk Music Council', volume XX (1968), pp. 9-12. The paper was delivered at a Conference of the International Folk Music Council, the theme of which was the concept and practice of folk music and dance in the twentieth century.
