Four-Wheel Horse Brake
Description
Demonstration of iron brake, or slipper, used with four-wheeled horse wagons, Swinithwaite ( Wensleydale). The slipper would have hung from the wagon itself, and would be lowered to the ground in such a way that when the wheel turned into it, it was effectively braked. Mounted on Photo File card. Informant: Jack Lynas of Holgate Farm, Hurst Moor (Arkengarthdale). Card 2 in a series of 2. Originally held in Photo File: Farm Carts.
