Cow Horn Oil Container (Dales Cart)
Description
Cow horn suspended by a chain from the axle of a Dales cart, Healaugh ( Swaledale). The cow horn has a steel rim and was used for oiling the wood-arm or iron straight arm of the Dales cart with patent grease on long journeys. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1206. With ms. notes and catalogue details in the hand of Werner Kissling. Originally held in Photo File: Farm Carts.
