Fieldwork and Research

Description

Papers relating to Stewart Sanderson's research activities during his time as Director of the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies (IDFLS). Sanderson's interests appear to have been varied, with the LAVC papers relating to research into riddles, traditional fishing methods, the Cottingley fairies and contemporary legends. The content of this particular subseries relates largely to research activities undertaken on behalf of the Institute, including two surveys into folk custom apparently conducted as part of the Folk Life Survey proposed in 1959 by Professors Orton and Jeffares.
