Description

This volume consists of a number of articles written by James Walton for 'The Quarry Manager's Journal', all relating to quarrying and stonework, and many with a Yorkshire bias. This includes articles on bakestone quarrying, a historical survey of Yorkshire stone trades, monumental stone masons of the 17th and 18th centuries, the Portland Stone quarries, flint quarrying, the scythe-stone maker, dry stone walling, stone slate roofs, lime burning, the weathering of building stones, the Elland flags and their value, the rough rock development at Crosland Hill (near Huddersfield) and twentieth century concrete farm buildings.
