Archivists' Correspondence and Related Papers
Description
This series contains correspondence between successive Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies (IDFLS) archivists and non-University of Leeds students and academics, publishers, museums and local museum services, academic journals, newspapers, learned societies and film companies in Britain and abroad. Some of the correspondence with the above is from the Institute's Director, Stewart Sanderson, and principal lecturer, Tony Green. Most of the correspondence relates to folklore and folk life research enquiries, the availability of, and access to, items in the Institute's archive, and the copying of theses/audiotapes for individuals and related organisations. Further requests relate to the catalogue of student theses produced by Stewart Sanderson, information on the archive's holdings to include in various subject/media directories, bibliographies and offers of items for deposit in the archive. This series also includes the Institute's 'Application for Copies of Material' forms (completed), with accompanying correspondence (usually requests to authors for permission to copy their thesis, and their responses). The items in this series are mainly original ms. and typed letters, with some photocopied replies from the archivist (also some letters copied from Stewart Sanderson to the archivist).
