Quoits: The Poddle

Description

Adult males deciding turns and partners at the start of a quoits game. The men have used a walking stick as a marker, at which pocket knives have been thrown in order to decide turns. This process is known as the poddle. The game is being played on a grass verge next to the road at Castle Bolton ( Wensleydale). The pin (stick) and quoits from a previous game can be seen on the grass in the foreground. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1764 and LAVC/PHO/P1765. With ms. note.
