Description
Four fishermen demonstrating cast-iron ropemaking devices, Low Bells Shielon the River Tweed, near West Ord (Northumberland) (as pictured in LAVC/PHO/P1227 and LAVC/PHO/P1228-1229). The devices were used for making cable-laid rope from old (salmon) fishing nets. In this photograph, lengths of net have been attached to each of the hooks of the three-hooked device and twisted. Three of the men each hold a length of rope taut, ready to attach them to the single-hooked device. Mounted on Photo File card. With typed note. Originally held in Photo File: Ropemaking.
