Recording English Vernacular Architecture

Description

This file contains multiple copies of recording sheets developed by R.W. Brunksill for recording the details of various types of English vernacular architecture, and found in his 'Illustrated Handbook of Vernacular Architecture' (London: Faber, 1970) . The first two copies of the recording sheet are completed as an example for a large 18th-century stone and brick house at Burgh-by-Sands, Cumberland, apparently by Brunskill himself. The sheets include areas to record details of place, surveyor and date, materials used, and date of construction; space for notes and/or diagrams; and example diagrams of types of doorways, windows and house types to be matched against the building being viewed.
