Horn Branding (Sheep)
Description
Mr. M. Horner of Buckden preparing to brand sheep horns in a field at Cray ( Langstrothdale). A metal bucket has been filled with small pieces of wood and set alight, in order to heat the metal branding implement. The sheep owner's registered brand will be burnt into the horn, forming a permanent record of ownership. Mr. Horner's horn-topped walking stick is planted in the ground in the foreground.
