This file contains items relating to beliefs concerning the house, with particular reference to luck. This includes mounted magazine cuttings from 'Country Life' on the concealment of footwear (in particular children's shoes) in roofspaces, chimneys, and under floorboards for luck; the veterinary tradition of hanging horse tails from gables; and rubbing nails in hair to facilitate hammering into hard planks. File contents retained in original classification order, and chronologically within this.
