Current Superstitions Television Script

Description

This file contains a transcript of television recordings made for a programme on contemporary popular superstitions and beliefs. The main part of the transcript is typed, and consists of eight rolls of interviews with informants in London, Somerset, the textile mills of West Yorkshire, Leeds and Staithes. Informants include Fenella Fielding on superstition amongst actors; Jack Charlton on football-related superstitions; members of the public on superstition generally, occupation-related superstitions in clothing shops and amongst textile workers and coal-miners, and beliefs relating to the cure of common ailments. Includes ms. annotations and directions. A photocopy of this transcript is also contained in this file. The file also includes a photocopy of the scripts of typed sequences A: The Countryside, B: Mascots and the Devil, C: Clothes and Doors, and D: Dangerous Trades, compiled from the original transcript/recordings.
