Description
This subseries, comprising one file only, contains items relating to labour and industrial unrest. This includes an ms. account, compiled from an original ms. source, of a Luddite attack on Cartwright's Mill near Huddersfield in April 1812, including a song composed following Luddite attacks on Foster's Mill (between Horbury and Ossett) and Cartwright's Mill (provenance unknown). The file also includes mounted magazine and newspaper cuttings from 'Country Life' and the 'Yorkshire Post', on evidence of industrial discontent at Oldknow's Mill on the River Goyt (Cheshire), a wage ticket issued to a factory worker in 1793, knocking-up slates on miners' houses, and industrial unrest in Yorkshire in the 18th and 19th centuries.
