Description
Ms. record cards compiled by Harold Orton from his own field recordings and from Armstrong College theses, containing background information on the periods of fieldwork, biographical information on informants and phonological sketches of individual localities. The localities included are Bamburgh, Belford, Capheaton, Coanwood, Cullercoats, Glanton and Whittingham, Newbiggin and Newbrough. Items for each locality are as follows: - Bamburgh: Details of informants and phonological sketch (1930-31). - Belford: Phonological sketch. - Capheaton: 2 phonological sketches, based on Orton's fieldwork recordings and Bowman's thesis respectively. - Coanwood: Phonological sketch based on J. E. Waugh's thesis (1932-33). - Cullercoats: Phonological sketch. - Glanton and Whittingham: Phonological sketch. - Newbiggin: Phonological sketch. - Newbrough: Details of method of collection and informants, and phonological sketch (1928-30). The cards are arranged alphabetically by locality name.
