Ms. index and record cards created by Harold Orton from the Raw Material and Armstrong College Theses, for the Armstrong College Survey of Northumbrian Dialects. Includes phonetic data for Allenheads, Bamburgh, Belford, Bellingham, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Capheaton, Coanwood, Coxhoe, Glanton and Whittingham, Newbiggin, Newbrough, Newburn, Old Hartley, Ovingham and Stanhope. The cards for Stanhope include a number of record cards intended for the Main Index but which were never actually incorporated. Additionally, there are a number of duplicate cards for Coxhoe and Newbrough. The index cards note orthographic spellings of individual words, word class (e.g. verb, adjective), and some include additional notes. The record cards note phonetic spellings of individual words, word class and locality. Kurt Rydland added ms. orthographic forms of headwords to the record cards in 1988-1989, as well as additions and corrections which are initialled KR. The cards are arranged alphabetically by lexical item: - Drawer 1: A-Barn - Drawer 2: Barq-Boy - Drawer 3: Bra-Cis - Drawer 4: Cla-Dew - Drawer 5: Di-Fe - Drawer 6: Fi-Gn - Drawer 7: Go-Hi - Drawer 8: Ho-La - Drawer 9: Lea-Mow - Drawer 10: Mrs-Ph - Drawer 11: Pi-Ri - Drawer 12: Ro-Shr - Drawer 13: Shu-Sta - Drawer 14: Ste-Thy - Drawer 15: Tic-Why - Drawer 16: Wic-Yu + Miscellaneous The additional cards for Stanhope, and duplicate cards for Coxhoe and Newbrough, are held alphabetically by location.
