This file includes an ms. account of haaf-net fishing on the River Nith and Solway Firth, collected from informants Mr Lockie of Carrutherstown, and Mr Clarke and Miss Clarke of Conheath, Dumfries and Galloway, 16 January 1966, by an unidentified collector; and photocopied and extracted magazine and newspaper cuttings from 'Country Life' and the 'Yorkshire Evening Post'on Maltese fish traps, salmon fishing (including types of net used), eel spears found in the Thames, shooting out lobster pots, fishing for river pearls on the Spey, smoking kippers at Whitby and the herring curing-yard at Seahouses. The cuttings are largely illustrative. File contents retained in original classification order.
