The file consists of a typed memo from Harold Orton to the director of the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies ( Stewart Sanderson) regarding the progress of Survey of English Dialects (SED) audio recordings, proposals for audio-tape and/or gramophone anthologies of dialect speakers recorded for the SED, and proposals for the publication of a linguistic atlas of England.
