Large double portrait of Mary Sabilla Novello and Clara Anastasia Novello
Description
Framed and glazed double portrait of Mary Sabilla Novello and Clara Anastasia Novello by Edward Petre Novello. Mary was Edward's mother and Clara his sister. Mary is stood on the left in a blue dress and Clara on the right. The frame is gilt wood with gesso ornaments. The drawing is in pencil on paper, mounted on cardboard, with washes of blue watercolour in the background and Mary's dress and hat. It has an unfinished appearance. Signed 'E.P.N' in pencil at the bottom right. The reverse has an inscription in Italian in a later hand, identifying the artist and sitters.
