Adoration of the Magi (fol. 40r)
Description
The miniature depicts the three Magi, represented as kings, before the Virgin and Child, and offering gold, frankincense and myrrh. The oldest king, Caspar, kneels in the forefront of the image. The town of Bethlehem is seen in the distance. The border is decorated with a shepherd playing the bagpipes and flowers, including heartsease, tulips, speedwells, campanula and acanthus leaves.
