Hippocamp (fol. 117v)
Description
4-line initial 'S' in gold, on red/blue background, decorated with white penwork (flowers and leaves). A bar-frame column border in gold and blue, and with small green leaf motifs. The border is decorated with large leaves (partly uncoloured), trefoils, golden ball, barbed quatrefoils, and a blue sea-horse-type creature, a hippocamp, with a coiling fish-like lower body and the upper body of a horse. Context: Psalter
