This file contains a copy of Claxton's paper, read to the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) on 15 November 1967, and extracted from the 'Journal of the Royal Society of Arts'(January 1968), pp. 114-134. The paper discusses the history of the bicycle, the modern bicycle, its diminishing use, its convenience, comparisons between bicycles and alternative modes of travel, the cycleway system in Stevenage and how the concept can be extended to other towns, and the further development of the bicycle. The file also includes the text of the ensuing discussion between Claxton and the Chairman and members of the RSA.
