This file contains items relating to horse-drawn carriages and wagons, etc., and includes a mounted black and white photograph of strickles and mounted postcard depicting an illustration (19th century?) of a Wolds Wagon labelled as plates XXI and XXII in ms. (source not known); R. S. Summerhays's article, 'Commuting to the City in the '90s' (i.e. the 1890s), extracted from 'Country Life' (22 July 1971), p. 228; G. G. W.'s article on William Francis Freelove's illustrations of 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles, extracted from 'Country Life'(21 October 1971), p. 1078; Marylian Watney's article, 'The Elegance of Driving', on 19th century carriages, extracted from 'Country Life' (22 June 1972), pp. 1602-1603; and mounted magazine cuttings from 'Country Life' on a dog carriage, stage wagons, a Victorian hearse, a Welsh rally cart, jaunting cars and hansom cabs. The cuttings are largely illustrative. File retained in original classification order, and chronologically within this.
