SED - Kolb
Description
The first file includes copy and original correspondence between Eduard Kolb, Stewart Sanderson, Harold Orton and others concerning Kolb's proposed use of Survey of English Dialects (SED) data to publish a linguistic atlas of England, and requests for items to be returned to Leeds (August 1966-January 1972); also copy and original correspondence between Sanderson and Professor Rudolf Stamm ( University of Basel), Dr. Olivier Reverdin (President of the Swiss Nationalfonds), Harold Orton and the Vice Chancellor at Leeds regarding difficulties with Kolb and the return of the SED items, including minutes of a discussion with Stamm and a record of relations with Kolb (October 1972-January 1974). The second file contains two copies of a typed research paper by Kolb, entitled 'Elmet : A Dialect Region in Northern England', [1972]. One copy includes Kolb's ms. inscription to an unnamed recipient. (The Elmet region occupies a large part of West Yorkshire). The correspondence file is arranged chronologically.
