Description
Correspondence between Stewart Sanderson and various correspondents relating to dialect and folklife, covering the period January 1961-February 1963, November 1971, and June-August 1975. This includes undated letters from informants with information on James Scarr of Coleby Hall, Askrigg (North Yorkshire), and a turn-of-the-century burial custom from Hutton-le-Hole (North Yorkshire); replies to informants from Sanderson on subjects including research into factory superstitions; correspondence with Mrs. Ellen Fieldhouseof Kirkby-in-Furness on fieldwork audio-tapes collected by her in the local area; correspondence on subjects including dialect and the Northumbrian small pipe in Yorkshire with H. W. Somerford of Manchester; and a copy of a letter written by Mary C. Bell on fairies, presented to Sanderson by David I. Masson in November 1976. File arranged chronologically.
