Papers on Children's Songs and Folklore
Description
This file contains documentation produced to accompany the 'Multicultural Cassette Series: Stories, Songs and Rhymes for Young Children', produced by Gwenda Davey, and recorded by Norman O'Conner (Victoria: Institute of Early Childhood Development, 1975-1979). The series was produced with funding from the Australian Government Children's Commission, and in its entirety consists of twenty-six tapes of children's stories, songs and rhymes in eight different languages (Italian, Greek, Spanish/South American, Turkish, Serbo-Croation, Macedonian, Arabic (Lebanese and Egyptian) and English). The manual contains synopses in English of every item included in the series, and suggestions on how the series can be used. The manual was originally held in a specially produced A4 ring binder marked Multicultural Cassette Series. The file also contains two photocopies of Gwenda Davey's paper, 'Non-English Literature and Folklore for Young Children: Some Problems in Selection of Material', from the 'Australian Journal of Early Childhood', volume 4, number 4 (December 1979), pp. 9-12; and two copies of her typed paper with June Factor, 'Cinderella and Friends: Folklore as Discourse', 13, [4] pp., delivered to the Linguistics Section at the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) Conference in 1980.
