Stanley Ellis Papers

Description

This series consists primarily of papers relating to the compilation of a Fishing Questionnaire used in a survey coordinated by Ellis through the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies (IDFLS) in 1966. Other items relate to Ellis's involvement in the Survey of English Dialects (SED), as well as his teaching and publishing activities. An appreciation written by colleagues to mark Ellis's retirement is also included. Although he was the principal fieldworker for the Survey of English Dialects, and involved in language teaching and the supervision of dialect-related theses, relatively few documents exist in the LAVC that were created by Stanley Ellis.
