Experimental and Teaching Maps

Description

This series includes a large number of experimental word maps based on the data collected by the Survey of English Dialects (SED) for England (with Wales and Scotland); photocopies and transparencies of experimental word maps for England (with Wales and Scotland) and the Northern Network of Localities, probably used by Harold Orton for teaching purposes; loose collections of photocopied, printed and ms.-completed maps relating to historical linguistics and language/dialect areas, possibly used as teaching aids; and an experimental map after the 'Linguistic Atlas of Scotland'. The majority of the experimental maps appear to have been either drawn or co-authored by Orton. Others involved in the production of these experimental linguistic maps include David North, Philip Tilling, Martyn Wakelin and Tony Green.
