Description

The series includes mounted Northern Counties word maps, some originally completed in ms. by Harold Orton, and some printed and headed Survey of English Dialects; mounted word maps of England and Wales, some originally completed in ms. by Orton and some printed; other word maps based on SED data; reproductions of Stanley Ellis's map of the Northern Counties; base maps of England, and England and Scotland, apparently produced as part of a language survey with localities marked; reproductions of published maps showing Middle English dialect areas; a wall map of the British Isles published by George Philip and Son; a negative reproduction of Edward Baines' 1822 map of the West Riding of Yorkshire; and printed maps showing the regions of Norway.
