Description
Papers relating to Wille Brunk's research into the Cleveland Bay horse, undertaken during his assistant lectureship at the Institute of Dialect and Folk Life Studies (IDFLS). Brunk intended to write a thesis on the Cleveland Bay horse in Cleveland hill farms. This file includes a file of original and copy copy correspondence between Brunk and Mr. Jack Welford of America House Farm, Hinderwell (June 1966), Mr. William Cowley (September 1966; October 1967), Major John Fairfax-Blakeborough (October-November 1966), Mrs. Ruth Kitching of Fryup Gill Farm (May-September 1967) and others; 2 files containing printed and photocopied articles on the Cleveland Bay horse from various sources, including information from the Cleveland Bay Horse Society; a file of ms. and typed drafts by Brunk on Cleveland farm horses; an ms. index of Cleveland words relating to horses; an ms. bibliography compiled on index cards relating to the Cleveland Bay horse; and ms. index cards with and references to published sources and quoted extracts on farm horses and their uses. The file of correspondence is arranged chronologically and by correspondent.
