Description
The papers in this file relate to Stanley Ellis's contribution of dialectal data to the 'Atlas of Northern England', a venture undertaken by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in conjunction with the publishers Thomas Nelson and Sons. This includes correspondence between Ellis and B. W. Beckingsale of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne; correspondence from D. Wilson Bell of E. J. Arnold and Son Limited, publishers; Ellis's ms. notes on maps to be contributed; typed papers containing a provisional list of contents for the 'Atlas of Northern England' and notes for contributors; sample printed maps; and Northern Counties base maps with Ellis's ms. markings, possibly chosen as notions for inclusion in the atlas.
