Description
Side view of a Tommy (forge hammer) and anvil at Noah Bloomer & Sons chainmakers, Cradley Heath, Sandwell (West Midlands). A red-hot bar of iron sits on the anvil ready for bending into a link. The finished part of the chain hangs behind; the coke supply for the forge is on the left. The hooked fitting on the rear of the anvil is for bending the red-hot bar around as the first stage in forging a link. Mounted on Photo File card. With ms. note.
