Description
This file comprises four photographic prints of historic European playing cards, accompanied by a photocopy of a typed key to the plates; a photocopy of Frank Weatherill's typed and ms. notes on the games of fox and geese, merrills and nine men's morris (May 1970; copied 22 August 1973); Jennifer Stead's typed paper on the game of Ringing Adam Bells (a feature of laiking neets in Yorkshire), accompanied by a photocopy of a typed letter on the subject from Iona Opie (17 December 1976), and Jennifer Stead's typed letter to Stewart Sanderson (19 April 1977); and mounted magazine and newspaper cuttings from the 'Yorkshire Evening Post', 'Country Life', the 'Dorset Evening Echo' and the 'Times', on merrills, nine men's morris, Chinese ivory puzzles, dwile flonking in Dorset, and a review of Iona Opie and Peter Opie's 'Children's Games in Street and Playground' (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1969). File contents retained in original classification order, and chronologically within this.
