Wooden Yoke
Description
Young female displaying the use of a wooden yoke for carrying milk, Thornton Rust ( Wensleydale). The wooden yoke sits on her shoulders. Wooden pails, used to carry milk from hill pastures to the farm house, are suspended on a chain at each end of the yoke. The girl wears her grandmother's clogs and clothes, which are typical of those worn on occasions such as depicted. Mounted on Photo File card. With ms. note. Card 1 in a series of 2.
