Description
Undated portrait of Emma Aloysia Novello by (John) Henry Sass. An inscription on the reverse reads: 'Oil sketch of Emma Aloysia Novello Painted by Mr. Sass when she was a pupil at his Academy of Design. Presented by his daughter, Miss Julia E. Sass to Emma Novello; & given by her to her sister Mary Cowden Clarke (born Novello). September 1877'. Edward Petre Novello also studied at Sass's Academy, then located at 6 Charlotte Street in Bloomsbury, London.
