This file contains items relating to criminal justice and punishment, and includes Derek Exley's article on the Halifax Gibbet, a crude form of guillotine, extracted from 'The Ridings' (Autumn 1964), pp. 21-22; and mounted newspaper and magazine cuttings from the 'Yorkshire Post', 'Country Life' and 'The Guardian', on the Glaisdale and Lealholm Association for the Prosecution of Felons and related societies; the use of market crosses as prison cells; village lock-ups and punishment cells; punishment devices including stocks and the scold's bridle; and standing gibbets.
